This might be the greatest news for auto technology at all. Genepax (the name of Japan Company) made it happen by bringing to life the first car that works on simple water.
The system is called Water Energy System and the key to the system is its membrane electrode assembly (MEA), which contains materials that are capable of breaking down hydrogen and oxygen from water through a chemical reaction and get power for car from that process.
For the moment the system installed in this car (MEA) costs about ¥2,000,000 (or about $18,000 - car is not included in the price) but company hopes that very soon they could start mass production and the price would drop to about $4,500-5,000 per system.
And here we have a nice video with the car in action (courtesy of Reuters).
